Grimsby came from behind to win beat Alfreton comfortably at Blundell Park this afternoon. Richard Brodie gave away a 27th min penalty which gave the visitors a shock lead. Brodie made amends a few mins before half time when he won Town a penalty with a thrusting run into the box which Devitt converted.
Town completed their first half come back with a late goal by Brodie just seconds before the break.
Cook looked to have put the game beyond doubt when he made the score 3-1 on the hour mark, flicking the ball in the net from a Brodie cross for the game's best goal.
But Alfreton gave themselves a lifeline when Clayton slammed the ball in the net when Town failed to clear the ball on 71. After a nervous 10 minutes Disley restored the two goal lead after poor Alfreton defending.
Grimsby failed to repeat their 5-2 wins from last season agaisnt Alfreton, but in the end picked up a thoroughly deserved three points.
With other results going their way Grimsby are now three points clear at the top. Live Scores
