Grimsby had all the better chances in the first half, without dominating overall possession.

Grimsby took the lead on 17 minutes when a corner was half cleared and the ball was played back in. John-Lewis scored from 5 yards out.

Hannah could have made it 2-0 on 27 but his shot bounced back off the top of the post.

Just before half term John Lewis spurned a great chance in front of goal with his head, but failed to make proper contact.

Cambridge equalised through Bury with their first clear cut chance of the game 10 minutes into the second half.

Town went ahead almost immediately when a deflected shot from Neilson from a Hannah free kick squirmed into the net.

Grimsby held on to record a terrific result with a tremendous display.
