Just In: FT: Alfreton 3 Grimsby 3

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 18/04/2014 14:57

The match was delayed until 16:15 due to the team coach not having arrived.

Thanoj came in for the injured Disley and John-Lewis started up front in place of Tounkara.

Grimsby took a 7th minute lead when Hannah raced onto a long ball, beat the offside trap. His shot should easily have been stopped by the Alfreton 'keeper, but he inexplicably failed to intercept it.

Five mins later the 'keeper made a good save to deny a John-Lewis header.

Alfreton equalised on 24 minutes when Town failed to clear a ball in the box and Law smashed it in.

After a good Alfreton spell Town once again took the lead when John-Lewis set up Hannah for his second, although he looked marginally offside.

Town continued to have the better possession and Alfreton had to clear a shot off the line in a goalmouth scramble in first half injury time.

Five minutes after the break Alfreton were back in the game when Sean Pearson gave away a penalty which Alfreton scored.

Grimsby had a strong passage of play and several corners, culminating in Pearson winning a penalty off Kempson. Hannah stepped up to score his hat trick.

A defensive cock-up by Town led to an Alfreton equaliser. Thomas headed the ball back and the defence stood still allowing Alfreton to nip in and score.
