Town made several changes but went back to 4-5-1 after the Oxford disappointment.
After a quiet 20 minutes Town started to come into the game and John-Lewis should have done better when he headed over from a free kick.
On the half hour mark a Neilson long-range shot produced a top save from Glennon.
Shaun Pearson gave Town the lead on 40 when he rose from a corner to power the ball in the back of the net.
Halifax should have scored in first half stoppage time but Maynard missed a good chance in the six yard box.
Magnay limped off early in the second half, and Clay came on, which meant Parslow went to right back.
Arnold nearly made it two with a cross-shot which the 'keeper tipped over for a corner.
Halifax improved in the second half and had most of the possession but Pell almost doubled Town's lead on 80 with a snap shot which went just wide.
Town had a few scares closing out the game but in the end held the visitors at arm's length to claim their fifth successive league win.
