Grimsby took the lead completely against the run of play after 15 minutes. A free kick feel to Clay on the edge of the box and Clay blasted it past the 'keeper.

McKeown then kept Town in the lead with a point-blank save to deny the home side.

Pittman headed a third home just after the half hour mark, nodding Robinson's cross into the bottom corner.

Disley then put Town two in front with their second attempt on goal, heading the ball in the net from a cross when left unmarked at the far post.

Grimsby carried on where they left off in the second half when Gowling headed in a fourth from Pearson's cross after a free kick.

Town should have scored more in the second half but didn't add to the tally. Gary Jones was sent off in injury time to complete a miserable day for Southport.

It was a ruthless win for Town who coasted most of the game in second gear.  Match Thread
