Monkhouse and Brown came in for Town. After a quiet first half hour Townsend brought the game to life with a quality free kick into the top corner.

Amond replaced the injured Bogle just before half time and scored almost straight away, latching on to a defensive mistake.

St Albans had looked dangerous on occasions and smashed in a lifeline midway through the second half.

Grimsby restored their two goal lead when Arnold created a chance for Pittman, who scored but was injured in the process.

Marshall came on and became the fourth different striker to score in the game. Then Amond rubbed salt in the wound with a fifth againat a tiring defence.
