Happy Non-League Day!

GRIMSBY won their second away game in a week on Saturday in Telford, with two goals from central defenders enough to claim three points for Town and lift the Mariners firmly into the promotion picture.

Town made just one change for the game, bringing in Ian Miller in place of the injured Sean Pearson, the first change for a while to a very settled back 5.

Nathan Pond headed Town in front from a first half free kick, before Jones brought the scores level on 21 minutes.

Grimsby restored the lead from another free kick. The initial shot was cleared but Miller, who had gone up for the free kick, was on hand to prod the ball home and put Town in front again.

In the second half both sides had chances to score further goals, and Elding could and should have put Town 2 goals in front, but Grimsby hung on to preserve their unbeaten record away from Blundell Park.

So Town ended non-league day victorious, and who knows maybe next year Grimsby won't be taking part in the 2013 eqivalent?
