A Bad Day at the Office

GRIMSBY'S run of poor results against part time sides continued last night with a 2-1 defeat at Southport. It was the first league game Town have lost this season after going ahead, with John Lewis giving the Mariners an early lead.

Town lost Clayton McDonald and Joe Colbeck to injury during the second half, and the pair are both doubtful for Saturday's game with Salisbury, and beyond.

With Oumare Tounkara, Paddy McLaughlin and Aswad Thomas already on the treatment table, the problems are beginning to pile up for Paul Hurst's side, with the long season taking its toll.

After Town's good start, Southport equalised just before half time with a 20-yard strike by Brown. Southport almost immediately scored again but McKeown denied them with a stunning save.

Hannah hit the post towards then end of the first half injury after good work by John-Lewis.

Thanoj came on for Kerr at half time, who had been booked in the first half, then early in the second half McDonald limped off with a hamstring injury.

With Town on top a calamitous defensive mistake by Bignot and Pearson let Southport in and Osawe put the home side in front.

In injury time Grimsby hit the woodwork for the third time from a Pearson header.

Town were unlucky to come away with nothing, but another poor result doesn't help their promotion campaign.

The Mariners face another part-time side, Salisbury, on Saturday at Blundell Park.
