Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Striker Tomorrow?

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 12/03/2001

"We need to find players capable of converting chances, whether from the existing squad or from outside. I realise supporters are sick and tired of me bemoaning the difficulty in obtaining a loan player, but hopefully by the Wimbledon game, I will have that player installed."

Grimsby Town manager Lennie Lawrence is once again in the hunt for a player and is sounding a little more confident in being able to do so today according to Mariners Net.

With deadline day approaching Lawrence can rest assured that he will have the support of the fans in his quest for a striker. Based on his recent comments, it is likely that he will have to lower his sights in his search with premier club players becoming increasingly scarce.

Not that it is a problem. Actually seeing a player up front who means business will be a great improvement although Daryl Clare was praised for his commitment on Saturday but was unable to convert his commitment and enthusiasm into goals.

If Grimsby ever needed Lady Luck to smile on them, never has there been a greater need than now. With time running out something has to change and a new face in the team could bring a change in fortune.

Any guesses of where LL might be looking? Replies to the Pontoonites Message Board.
