Glory Boys Return

News From 5th January 2000

At Monday's game against Sheffield United at Blundell Park, some of Town's greatest players from the past sixty years were paraded to mark the first game of the new millennium.

They walked behind the goal at the Pontoon end and then lined up in front of the Main Stand for a photograph (see below). They were then introduced to the crowd one by one, with a potted description of their Town career. The full line-up was:

Stan Lloyd; Tom Daly; Clarrie Williams; Dave Richardson; Jimmy Fell; Ron Cockerill; Brian Keeble; Brian Clifton; Bobby Ross; George McClean; Jimmy Bloomer jnr; Keith Jobling; Dave Boylen; Stewart Grey; Owen Simpson; Jack Lewis; Harry Wainman; Matt Tees; Clive Wiggington; Mike Czuczman; Malcolm Partridge; Nigel Batch; Mike Brolly; Kevin Kilmore; Steve Sherwood; Gary Birtles; Paul Futcher.

Matt Tees got quite a big cheer, but the biggest cheers were reserved for Birtles and Futcher - presumably because they played much more recently than the others.
