Black to be Released
News From 13th May 2000
Town winger Kingsley Black has been told by manager Alan Buckley to explore his options elsewhere in the coming weeks
Out of contract this summer, the manager has not ruled out retaining Black, but Buckley feels that at 31 he may have a better chance of securing a longer contract with another club.
The former Luton and Nottingham Forest player, who arrived at Blundell Park in the Brian Laws era for £25K, is not exactly surplus to Grimsby's requirements. But Alan Buckley will have to juggle his squad very carefully this summer, as he is unlikely to be given much money to play with. A 2 or 3 year deal for Black might stretch Buckley's meager "war chest" more than he would wish.
Buckley went some way to explain his decision:
"At this stage of his career, I've had a long chat and he's a super pro, good player and a smashing lad and I think it's better for 'Kings' to take what offers come his way.
"He must see what is suitable for him and see if he can get a two or three year deal anywhere.
"We might be able to do something for him and he'll keep me informed."
