News From 26th April 2000
Town right back Danny Butterfield has been ruled out of the last two games of the season following an X-ray examination of his left hand yesterday. The injury was sustained during the 2-1 defeat at West Brom on Easter Monday.
He played on in pain during the last 5 minutes of the game at the Hawthorns, in which Town suffered a 2-1 defeat, but their survival in Division One next season was ensured thanks to results elsewhere in the division. Butterfield had come on as a second half substitute for Tony Gallimore.
Meanwhile Town manager Alan Buckley has been given permission by the board to make improved offers to two of their players who will be out-of-contract at the end of the season. The two players concerned are Mark Lever and David Smith, both of whom have expressed a wish to stay at the club.
Town vice-chairman Bryan Huxford confirmed:
"We have given the manager the go ahead to make the revised offers but obviously we have to work within the club's wage structure."
