Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Crewe Preview

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 29/08/2000

In our preview of Town's game tonight at Crewe we're predicting that the Mariners will travel to Gresty Road with an unchanged squad. After yesterday's results both clubs are marooned in the bottom three in what is already been dubbed as a "six pointer" by the doom sayers - in August!

With Town only having a small squad and injured trio Richard Smith, Peter Handyside and Wayne Burnett still out, even if he wanted to, the opportunties to change the line-up after just one game are limited for Lawrence.

The Town lineup for tonights game therefore is: Coyne, McDermott, Raven, Livingstone, Butterfield, D Smith, Pouton, Groves, Coldicott, Black, Allen, Clare, Jeffrey, Allen, Croudson, Buckley, Chapman.

It's almost certainly too early to change the formation either, so our prediction is for the team and formation to stay the same way (with maybe a slight tinker) as they were in Saturday's home defeat against Sheffield Wednesday.

Both teams will be seeing this as an oppurtunity to chalk up their first three points of the season. Town have been traditional slow starters in recent seasons. Even in Town's promotion season three years ago, it took them seven games to chalk up their first win. In the two intervening seasons it took three and five games respectively.

We spoke to our opposite number at the Crewe Rivals site crewealex.co.uk and asked them which Crewe player should Town be looking out for.

Mike Lawson from Crewe replied: "Our best Player at the moment is Rodney Jack, he's got the pace of Michael Owen, the skill of Di Canio. He will be a big asset in the game, at the moment he's reaching the peak of his performance, and ran the QPR defenders inside out in our last game."

Expected Town line-up: McDermott, Butterfield, Raven, Livingstone, Pouton, Coldicott, Groves, D Smith, Jeffrey and Allen.

Subs: Croudson, Clare, Black, Chapman and Buckley

Expected Crewe line-Up: Kearton, S Smith, D Wright, Sodje, Macauley, Sorvel, Lunt, Street, Jack, Rivers, Hulse.

Subs: Bankole, Foster, Little, Grant, Collins.

Prediction: 1-1
