Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Evers Joins Mariners

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 18/09/2000

Grimsby Town manager Lennie Lawrence has brought a further player on loan to Blundell Park. Midfielder Sean Evers who plays for second division Reading, will feature along with a number of trialists and the two loan players in the midweek reserve game against Scunthorpe United.

23-year-old Evers, who played for Lawrence during his spell as manager at Luton, is unlikely to be more than a loan signing for the Mariners. The Hitchin born midfielder cost Reading £500K in March 1999 when the Royals bought Evers from Luton, and Lawrence's priority at the moment is a striker.

However given that Evans has played just one game for Reading this season, and only eight in total in over 2 years, the Royals might be prepared to let Evers go at a fraction of his original cost.

Neither Stuart Campbell nor Sean Evers will be available to play in the Worthington cup game tomorrow against Wolves at Blundell Park, as their clubs will not allow them to be cup-tied.

With Steve Livingston unavailable through injury, Lennie Lawrence will be forced to shuffle his cards yet again in another challenge to his managerial skills in Lawrence's short time in charge at Blundell Park
