3rd Round Worthy Cup Draw

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 28/09/2000

Town have been drawn away at Fulham in the 3rd round of the Worthington Cup, provided that they can avoid defeat at Wolves in the second round game. The return leg with Wolves has been re-scheduled for Monday (October 2nd).

The full draw is as follows:

Southampton v Coventry
Arsenal v Ipswich
Aston Villa v Man City
Wimbledon v Middlesbrough
Tottenham v Birmingham
Newcastle v Bradford
Sheff Wed v Sheff Utd
West Ham v Blackburn
Stoke v Barnsley
Liverpool v Chelsea
Derby v Blackpool or Norwich
Fulham v Grimsby or Wolves
Leicester v Crystal Palace
Tranmere v Leeds
Bristol Rovers v Sunderland
Watford v Man Utd

The games are due to be played on evenings of the 31st October and 1st November.

The original match with Wolves was called off last Tuesday due to heavy rain on the day of the game in the Grimsby area. Town won the replay 3-2 two days ago, scoring two late goals to come from behind and record a rare win.

Town will probably be disappointed to draw yet another first division side in this competition, especially away from home. With all the teams now in the competiton, the route to the final is now known. If Town beat Wolves followed by Fulham, they would face Derby, Blackpool, or Norwich in the 4th round.
