Question of the Week

Who will go down?

Mendonca Delay

Town manager Lennie Lawrence has had to put his plans to sign former Mariner Clive Mendonca on hold due to the Charlton striker's continuing injury problems with his foot. Lawrence went to the Leicester reserve game against Charlton on Monday night, but "Super Clive" did not play in the game.

With Nielsen now established at Blundell Park for at least three months, and hopefully for much longer than that, Lawrence now has three first choice strikers to work with. The Grimsby boss, who currently regards Allen, Nielsen and Livingstone as his three main strikers, with Clare, Jeffrey and Rowan to support the trio, is still looking to bring in a 4th "proven" striker to add to the squad and bring in more competition. "Ideally I'd like four but you must have competition up front because it's the hardest position to play." explained Lawrence. If the 4th striker is to be Mendonca then Lawrence will have to wait until his fitness returns, or look elsewhere.
