With all the recent hype regarding Nielsen, Fostervold, Murray and Campbell plus the continuing inflow of other trial players, little has been said about the young players the Mariners are developing in-house.

Players like Jonathan Rowan who was called to the first team and scored in the Worthington cup game against Wolves. Lennie Lawrence has this week extended the contracts of some of our young stars in a move to further strengthen the squad in addition to the new signings that the Grimsby boss is looking to recruit. Jonathan Rowan's contract has been extended until June 2002 and he will be expected to be a serious contender for a first team place in the not to distant future. Young defender Iain Ward has also been offered a contract until June 2002 and will now leave the Youth Academy and turn full professional. Midfielder Andy Smith who joined the club from Barnsley in the pre-season has agreed to stay another three months at Grimsby to allow Lennie Lawrence to take a longer look at him.
