Question of the Week

Who will go down?

Couldn't Af-fjord Fossie!

By: Stephen Bateman
Date: 17/01/2001

Norwegian defender Knut Anders Fostervold is about to return to Norway after failing to earn a permanent contract with the Mariners. Fostervold joined Grimsby from Molde in November, but struggled to make any impression on the team.

The imposing left-back spoke of manager Lennie Lawrence's attempts to sign him on a full-time basis, before revealing that the real stalling point was a lack of cash in the Grimsby coffers:

"They wanted to buy me," said Fostervold. "The problem is that Grimsby is a small club and it doesn't have much money. The manager told me he regretted that I was leaving."

Surprisingly, Fostervold then went on to announce that he had never really had any intention of forging a career in English football, as he continued:

"I never really had any plans to play abroad, although I am happy to have had such an opportunity and it will remain a good memory when I finally hang up my boots.

"I've also trained well and played matches on green grass, so I'll be in pretty good shape when I report to Molde for pre-season training in February."
