Nielsen: "Deal Close"

Reports from Denmark are that departing Grimsby loan striker David Nielsen claims to be close to lining up a new English club to play for, although the Dane has conceded that the overture from an unnamed Premiership side interested in signing the 24-old Danish striker was only tentative.

According to David Nielsen himself a deal could be arranged with an English first division club as early as Monday. After Nielsen's unsuccessful "adventure" in Grimsby the traveling Dane looks to be on his way to continue his career with another English first division club.

"I will soon have a sit down and have a talk with my agent Poul Erik Petersen, and afterwards will officially negotiate terms. Some parts should be in place already tonight [Sunday] - or early on Monday" said David Nielsen on Sunday afternoon.

The former FCK striker only days ago was mentioned in connection with both a nameless Premier League team and also with first division sides Norwich, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United. But Nielsen insists that the rumour about a Premiership club is not true.

"That is not concrete. We are only talking about clubs from the first division" said Nielsen, who this weekend left the Grimsby area, where he has been staying in an hotel, and travelled to Scotland "to get away from it all and consider things".

After three months, and six goals in his time at Grimsby, Nielsen's loan contract officially ends on the 31st January. The protracted negotiations with the Mariners and Nielsen about a permanent contract were reportedly stifled by the Dane's personal wage demands.

On Friday Grimsby manager Lennie Lawrence told Nielsen that he was no longer wanted in Grimsby, and it was on that day that the former under-21 Danish striker trained for the last time with his team-mates at Blundell Park.

"Lennie Lawrence obviously feels a need to talk badly about me, because he is angry in that he couldn't get a contract with me. But honestly it doesn't bother me" said David Nielsen.

Although Nielsen's contract with FC Copenhagen doesn't formerly end until the summer, the Dane has nonchalantly refused to play for FC Copenhagen too, ironically because he blames them for blocking his move to Grimsby. "It doesn't bother me either way. I could get a loan period to prepare for a change of club, or we could use the time to sort out a new loan deal." said the Danish striker, speaking of his remaining time in Denmark.
