Town Reveal The Mystery Player

GRIMSBY Town today announced that a premiership defender player will be joining the club. This is the news that all Town fans and supporters have been waiting a week for. Fans have been suggesting possible names ranging from Lever to Van Nistelroy.

But today the club have announced that the player is: Andy Todd from Charlton Athletic.

Mariners Net in an exclusive announcement said: Town Boss Paul Groves today completed the signing of defender Andy Todd on a month's loan from Premiership Charlton Athletic.

The Manager has received the Board's backing, and this audacious move for a player who joined the Addicks for a £1 million fee, shows that the Mariners are not giving up the fight for First Division safety.

Groves was 'away on business' yesterday, and was clearly lining up the swoop - this being among the most dramatic by a Town manager for years.

Paul Groves has certainly shown that he is looking for players of the highest calibre in his squad and Todd will start the game on Saturday at Nottingham Forest and then be in line to make his home debut in the £5 entrance Stockport game on Tuesday. He will be able to play in six games, at a time when the Mariners are in the greatest need.

Told told Mariners Net: "I'm very pleased to be coming to Grimsby on loan. It will give me a chance to get some first team football under my belt again and I'm looking forward to it. Obviously every match is like a cup final for Grimsby at the moment and I'm certainly looking to do well for the team and myself.

"Paul Groves spoke to me at the back end of last week but I felt I needed another reserve team game with Charlton before I made my decision. Paul Groves was at the Charlton reserve match last night and after the game I agreed to the deal," END

Billo Says:This is excellent news from the club and fans will be delighted by both Groves' seeking a class player and buoyed by the news that the directors have backed him in what must have been far from a cheap deal.

Everyone in the club from the directors down and the Grimsby Telegraph are backing the Mariners and now it is up to the supporters to do their bit and take advantage of the 5 pound ticket offer and "kids for a quid" and turn out in droves to help their club to surmount the difficulties facing them
