Three Doubtful For Millwall Clash

By: Richard Lord
Date: 19/04/2002

A trio of Grimsby Town players look likely to sit out of the squad for the last game of the season at the New Den, Millwall. Stuart Campbell, Simon Ford and Steve Croudson are all doubtful for the match although back-up keeper Croudson may be forced to make the journey to the Capital.

Danny Coyne's deputy has been struggling with a shoulder injury for the second half of the season but there has been a deliberate delay on an operation to cure the problem.

It appears the injury has worsened in training and Croudson might be forced to sit on the bench.

Ronald Ermes and Morgan Cranley have both been released from the club, leaving Croudson as the only other contracted keeper at the club other than Coyne.

However, with it being the last game of the season and Town's place in Division One already assured, the management team might decide to risk naming a bench without a back-up keeper.

Stuart Campbell has aggravated his ankle in training and is more than likely to miss the clash with the Lions. He will be hoping to get fit in time to train with the Scotland squad after Berti Vogts called the former Under 21 international to train with the squad.

Youngster Simon Ford pulled a thigh muscle in training and will not be featuring in the starting eleven at Millwall, although he may make the bench if he recovers in time.

Manager Paul Groves looks set to stick with the same side that thumped Burnley 3-1 last Saturday to guarantee safety in the First Division for another season.

There will be a 700-strong army of Mariners supporters making their way to the match after most of the allocation given to Grimsby fans has been sold.
