The Cost Of Seeing The Mariners

ANOTHER season finished, so now it is time to relax and allow all the stress, strain, suffering, pain and joyous relief, that we all carry with us, whilst watching Town, to dissipate over the next few weeks, 'til the World Cup and England.

Now is the time to work hard and to try to regain all our hard earned savings getting ready to buy our new season tickets or contemplating the Match day tickets, or to plan for the new trips to Reading, Brighton, Derby, Leicester et al.

Once again time is upon us to start to think about next season, how much it will cost to go and see The Mariners play next season. I believe that Grimsby should contemplate raising their Ticket prices, whether that be Match day or Season tickets, for next season.

With the failure of ITV Digital, and the expected non-payment of the remaining £178.5m, smaller teams must look to other ways of raising much needed funds.

In comparison to the other clubs in our Division last season, Grimsby were the cheapest club to watch in the Division, along with Walsall, as the following table shows.

Team Match day Prices Average Price per Game
Crystal Palace £18.00 - £25.00 £21.50
Wimbledon £17.00 - £25.00 £21.00
Gillingham £18.00 - £23.00 £20.50
Watford £16.00 - £25.00 £20.50
Bradford £16.00 - £22.00 £19.00
Coventry £15.00 - £21.00 £18.00
Man City £16.00 - £20.00 £18.00
Norwich £16.00 - £20.00 £18.00
Nott'm Forest £16.00 - £20.00 £18.00
Portsmouth £16.00 - £20.00 £18.00
Sheffield Weds £15.00 - £21.00 £18.00
Wolves £15.00 - £20.00 £17.50
Barnsley £16.00 - £18.00 £17.00
Birmingham £14.00 - £20.00 £17.00
Burnley £14.00 - £20.00 £17.00
Sheffield Utd £14.00 - £20.00 £17.00
West Brom £14.00 - £19.00 £16.50
Crewe £16.00 £16.00
Millwall £16.00 £16.00
Preston £14.00 - £18.00 £16.00
Rotherham £14.00 - £16.00 £15.00
Stockport £14.00 - £16.00 £15.00
Grimsby £13.00 - £15.00 £14.00
Walsall £12.00 - £16.00 £14.00

This is where the club may find it possible to gain, at least, an extra £3,000 - £6,000 income per week, and bring our prices into line with some of the other clubs around us.

There will be some who will feel this is not appropriate but in the current economic climate that Grimsby find themselves in it could mean the difference between salvation and the untimely demise of the club we feel so much for.

After having lived the 'good' life for so long, following The Mariners, is it not about time for us to bite the bullet and to help that bit more to bring in, and keep, the players we want to see at the club and give them that extra push towards the Premiership?
