Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Deadline Approaching!

By: Richard Lord
Date: 29/08/2002

MANAGER Paul Groves has revealed to the Grimsby Telegraph that there will be no new faces arriving at Blundell Park before Saturday's deadline when the transfer window closes for four months.

The player-boss has been working hard to bring in an experienced keeper on loan for cover when Town's number one Danny Coyne is expected to join up with the Welsh squad a week on Saturday.

If the match against Ipswich goes ahead, it will mean a first-team debut for youngster Bradley Hughes as Steve Croudson is still recovering from a shoulder injury he picked up last season.

Groves said: "We need to get somebody in but whether we can or not is a different matter. We've got no money and the transfer deadline is this weekend." The Football League are requesting a relaxation of the law for Nationwide clubs but Groves feels that won't occur.

"I don't think it will happen. They're talking about hoping it gets relaxed for two years. But the date is nearly upon us and we still don't know. We're trying to cover every angle but if you don't have any money what can you do?"

The Official Website GTFC.co.uk believe that the game against Ipswich is likely to be called off and replayed at a later date because of at least three internationals in the Tractor Boys' squad.

If that is the case then it means Groves will have Coyne and Barnard available for the re-arranged fixture against the promotion favourites.
