Oster Joins Town On Loan

JOHN Oster has joined the Mariners on loan from Sunderland for a month after Town boss Paul Groves tied up the deal today and has his man registered in time to be part of the squad to face Gillingham at Blundell Park this Saturday.

Groves has kept an eye on the former Town midfielder for some time, and although a loan move was rumoured towards the end of last season, no such move was made.

Oster made his Mariners debut at the raw age of 17 under the management of Kenny Swain, before being sold to Premiership Everton for £1.5m at the end of the season.

After moving north to Sunderland, Oster has barely tasted first team football and his international career was left in tatters after two consecutive red cards.

And the youngster was sent back to Sunderland from Barnsley after the Yorkshire club revealed Oster did not want to train with the youth team players whilst at Oakwell on loan.

Paul Groves never got the chance to play alongside Oster in the first team in the 96/97 season as he was with Alan Buckley at West Brom.

Oster has recently been in the news following an air gun incident, which ended one of his Black Cat team-mate's career.

But his arrival will boost the numbers at Blundell Park following the departure Cape Verde international Georges Santos.
