Come Clean About Stadium!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 03/03/2003

PLANS for the new Grimsby Town stadium at Great Coates were placed in doubt today after it was revealed that the club and the developer had failed to sign the 106 agreement for which the deadline had been set for the end of February.

However, the Grimsby Telegraph reports that there are still a couple of weeks before NELC planning committee meets to decide whether to refuse the application for the new stadium complex and an agreement could be made.

Shadow planning chairman, Coun Peter Mills said: "Planning officers made it quite clear that without the signatures, planning permission is not granted. We can't make rules for one and another set of rules for another, even though it is a football club."

Chiltern Investment Properties Ltd, Sir Richard Sutton's Settled Estates and Grimsby Town FC and NELC were expected to sign the agreement but that failed to happen.

Although Grimsby Town chairman Peter Furneaux said the matter was being dealt with by Chiltern Developments it seems that another stumbling block has been placed in the way of the development and it is about time that all parties "came clean" about the project and if it is a dead duck, as previously claimed by Alec King, they should come out and say so.
