Pay Cuts For All!

By: Richard Lord
Date: 22/06/2003

MANAGER Paul Groves and the rest of his squad have been hit with pay cuts as clauses in their contracts have been enforced since relegation hit the club. "Everybody has taken a pay cut at this football club. Everybody," confirmed Groves.

Non-playing staff have also seen their wages slashed by up to 20% and a £50,000-a-year salary cap has been introduced for any further new signings.

The pay cuts were part of the contracts players signed while the club were in the First Division. "It's something that's been built into the contracts," continued Groves, speaking to the Grimsby Telegraph.

"If you have existing deals and then you suffer a loss of revenue that you haven't planned or prepared for, you suffer for that - as clubs from the Premiership have found out.

"That might be on a bigger scale but it's the same principle and you have to work like that now." Meanwhile forgotten striker Phil Jevons has been in negotiations with the club to reduce the current deal he is on.

Big earner Danny Coyne will be allowed to leave the club for free in a further attempt to reduce the club's wage bill if other clubs step up their interest in the keeper.
