Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Another Player Signs!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 02/07/2003

IAIN Anderson has signed a two year deal with Grimsby Town today as planned. He put pen to paper after a medical and started his training with the team-shortly after. Anderson's signing finally rules out any further offers to Michael Keane.

He started his career at Dundee and became the youngest player ever to score in the Scottish Premier League. He was transferred to Toulouse. He joined Preston on loan from Toulouse at the end of the 1999/2000 season. He was quickly taken to by the fans and was a deciding factor in Preston's promotion to the First Division. At the end of the season he agreed to the switch and joined Preston for a £500,000 fee.

Unfortunately his time at Preston was beset with injury problems until the end of 2002 season when he regained his place and started to show his form. Released at the end of last season after being loaned to Tranmere, he has now signed for Grimsby in the hope he can get first team football.

Anderson has pace and is very quick to seize opportunities and convert them to goals. He has played with Michael Keane who was with the Mariners last season. (see pic below)

He told Mariners Net; "I'm delighted to be joining Grimsby. Paul Groves first contacted Preston about me a month ago and I came over to Blundell Park last week to chat to him. There were two other clubs interested in signing me - one in England and one in Scotland - but Paul Groves sold the club to me and I'm pleased to be here having not missed too much of the pre-season."

"It didn't work out for me at Preston last season under the new manager but that's football. I'm here now and just want to get on with it."

"I can play on either flank, I'm right footed so if I'm on the right then I can get plenty of crosses in, but I like playing on the left as well when I can cut in on my right foot. I usually get most of my goals playing on the left."
