Pair to Quit Town!

EXPERIENCED pair Dean Gordon and Colin Cramb are both to make a surprise exit from Blundell Park. Gordon has asked for his contract with Town to be terminated, and Cramb looks likely to move to a European club. Both players are currently on short-term deals at Blundell Park.

Former Palace defender Dean Gordon asked to be released from his contract yesterday after being left out of the side against Macclesfield.

"Dean Gordon has asked to be released from his short-term contract and the club have accepted his request," Town boss Russell Slade told the Grimsby Telegraph.

It is unclear whether Gordon's request is a result of him being dropped, or something the left-sided utility player had decided prior to the game. In either case Gordon's experience and ability at set pieces will be sorely missed. Had Gordon stayed at Blundell Park he looked on course to win the Player of the Year award this season.

Cramb's loss is less critical for the Mariners, especially with the arrival of new signing Martin Gritton this week. The 30-year-old Scot has scored three times for the Mariners this campaign since arriving at the end of September.

"Colin Cramb's agent has been looking at a more permanent deal aboard for him and he also looks like moving on," said Slade.

Slade had been expected to trim his squad size, which has steadily grown all season. The identity of the first two players to leave may, however, not have been the first on many fans' prospective lists.

"We are still looking to build the squad and inevitably players will come and go," Slade explained.
