VETERAN defender John McDermott has joined the Blundell Park coaching team in a part-time capacity. The Town stalwart, who is the club's record appearance holder and has played for Grimsby for the last 18 years, will assist Russell Slade and Graham Rodger.

Commenting on the appointment, Town boss Russell Slade said: "He is a tremendous pro and a great example to the other players. He has been helping out here and there and now he is getting his chance with myself and Graham."

  • Justin Whittle has a sporting chance of being fit in time for Friday night's clash with Cheltenham in Gloucestershire. The former Hull City defender has missed every game this year since picking up an ankle injury in the game at Lincoln shortly after Christmas.
  • Conference South side Weymouth have launched an audacious bid to bring former Grimsby winger Ashley Sestanovich to the South Coast. Sestanovich is transfer-listed because he is unable to play for the Blades having been on a season-long loan at Grimsby.
