AFTER four defeats in their last five games, Town will be hoping to give the fans something to cheer about on Saturday with the visit of Wycombe to Blundell Park.

The Opposition

Overview

Wycombe have had a bit of topsy-turvy season in 2004/05. Their campaign started brightly under the leadership of Tony Adams as in the early stages they were near the top of the table. However, a poor run of results in November resulted in the former England Captain's departure and Wanderers slide into the bottom half of the table. This prompted the arrival of John Gorman who since taking over has steadied the ship a little and taken Wanderers within touching distance of the play-offs.

Their Squad

In goal for Wycombe will be the experienced Frank Talia, formerly of Hartlepool and Swindon who has been a virtual ever present this season. In defence, Wanderers can call upon ex-Tottenham stopper Stuart Nethercott and full back Gus Uhlenbeek, who got sent off in his last visit to Blundell Park with Chesterfield in 2003. In midfield is another players with a wealth of experience - Rob Lee who has played for West Ham, Charlton, Newcastle and Derby in 22 year career. He joins another veteran, Steve Claridge (left), who has netted 4 goals since his move in February. However, the Wycombe side is not all about experience. Talented forward Nathan Tyson is on his day, one of the best in the league, while Danny Senda and the on loan defender Michael Williamson provide youthful energy to Gorman's side.

Key Player

Nathan Tyson (left). Scored a hat-trick in Wanderers last game against Kidderminster, taking his tally for the season to 22. A pacy forward, Tyson was brought to the Causeway Stadium by Tony Adams last season for a nominal fee from Reading, after impressing in a loan spell. Town will need to keep an eye on Tyson, as well as the experienced Steve Claridge, if they are to avoid slipping to another loss.

Town will certainly be without Matt Harrold who has now returned to Brentford after his loan expired. This means that either David Soames or Andy Parkinson will start alongside Gritton in attack, with Michael Reddy still sidelined.

Slade could opt for Parkinson because he has hinted a return to the 3-5-2 formation this week, following the return to fitness of Simon Ramsden, who could return in a three man defence with Whittle and Forbes.

Nick Heggarty could get a place on the bench and he, together with Soames are likely to be involved following Slade's promise to give some of the clubs fringe players a chance as the season comes to a close.

Clint Easton is definitely out for Wanderers after suffering a hamstring injury last weekend. Joe Burnell will slot into the left back position despite suffering from concussion in the Kidderminster game last week.

This means that John Gorman will have to pick between ex Plymouth man Ian Stonebridge or club captain Keith Ryan who has just recovered from a groin injury, as Wycombe go for a 4-3-3 formation that has served them well in recent weeks.

Mark Philo could be given a place on the bench after impressing in the reserves.

Since our first meeting in 1997/98 season, Town have not had the best of luck against the Chairboys, managing just one win - last season in a 3-1 win at Blundell Park.

Connections

Iffy Onoura (left) played for both Wycombe and Town last season. Onoura played 6 games under Lawrie Sanchez for Wycombe at the start of last season, but just a week later then signed for Town after Wycombe decided not to retain him. He went on to make 18 appearances for the Mariners, scoring three goals. He then appear for Tranmere and Huddersfield last season after leaving Town. At the start of this season he was appointed player/coach at Walsall but was axed by Paul Merson in October.

Last Meeting

Town last met Wanderers in their last game in August, going down 2-0 despite dominating for much of the game and even missing a penalty through Michael Reddy. A double from Adam Birchall, with each goal coming either side of half time compounded Town to defeat in front of 4,320 fans at the Causeway Stadium.
