Club Statement:

Grimsby Town fans will not surprisingly given the problems on and off the field, be asked to pay upto £1 extra per game next season after the club announced a rise in both season ticket and matchday prices.

The across-the-board rise comes as the club continues its bid to raise funds for the 'Keep the Mariners Afloat' campaign.

And while the Town board appreciates that the increase will prove unpopular, they hope fans will have sympathy with the club's current financial plight.

Chairman John Fenty said: "To assist the manager in his quest to strengthen his squad, the Board have sanctioned a nominal increase in admission charges.

"These costs will be offset by new initiatives to encourage supporters to purchase tickets for next year. "The financial situation at the club is currently highlighted by the 'Keep the Mariners Afloat' campaign.

"The Board hope that fans will understand the reasons behind the decision and continue to support the club as they have done so successfully in the past. "The extra revenue brought in will help Russell with his plans for the future."

While the rise in prices isn't likely to be welcomed, the club is hoping fans will be attracted by a number of special deals and discounts for early purchases.

One new feature is a price freeze on junior tickets keeping them at £50 each if they are bought alongside an adult season ticket, rather than the new £70 charge.

Another new feature at Blundell Park is the decision to have a 'two-tier' price for juniors.

Junior prices of £70 a season are now valid for youngsters aged 14 and under, with tickets in a new category of young adults between 15-18 costing £90 for the campaign.

But the prices still compare favourably with other clubs in League Two - many of whom have similar charges for solely standing season tickets behind the goal.

The new 2005/06 season tickets are set to go on sale from June 6 with a host of discounts on offer for those first in line.

In addition, Season ticket holders will also be able to purchase a special mini-season ticket for the four home pre-season matches against Scunthorpe, Rotherham, Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds at a discount of 50 per cent - just £20 for the four games.
