Paying To Make It Better!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 19/05/2005

THE increase in the cost of season tickets was not unexpected and we will probably see an increase in the normal ticket prices too. We can also expect an outcry from those who think they do not get value for at the old prices.

But we have to look ahead. If the last season was disappointing so be it.

But we have to move on and the club are doing all they can to improve things. We cannot expect to have an appeal to raise money to pay outstanding debts and leave the ticket prices standing unchanged.

That is not good, but it has to be, if Slade has a budget sufficient to fulfil his wishes in regard to players. The club also have to have additional funds if they are to keep our head above the waterline.

People hate increased prices whatever they are buying. I suppose that is human nature. But at Grimsby Town ticket prices have been amongst the lowest in any division we have been in.

But with the club's current financial position, there has been a need to increase the price.

This increase is not to fill someone's pockets or profiteering in any way. It is a simple fact of life that if we want a club, supporters have to rally to the cause in the hope that what happens this season will bring some respite from the ongoing financial crises we face season after season.

Once again, the board will be making their commitments so the fans are not doing it all on their own.

It is hard being a Town fan sometimes but on this occasion the need demands it.

I cannot see the directors having any choice. They have avoided price increases for as long as they could and have avoided them until this coming season. They don't like them any more than the fans do. They will take a lot of flak from some quarters.

But what else could they have done?
