After coming through Everton's academy, Jevons signed for Grimsby for £250,000 in 2001. Lennie Lawrence said that the signing was a "remedy" for Town's problem in front of goal, and not necessarily a cure. His first goal in a Grimsby Town shirt was a delightful volley during the 4-1 pre season win at Scunthorpe.

In his sixth appearance in a Town shirt, he swept Danny Butterfield's centre into the bottom corner to give the Mariners a 1-0 win over Barnsley. That result sent Town top of Division one.....just hours before England's 5-1 thrashing of Germany!

Just five weeks later, "Jevvo" scored the goal of his life. A thirty yard cracker in the last minute of extra time, to give Town a shock 2-1 win at Anfield. (Ironically Jevons was brought up as a red). He scored only a handful of goals during the rest of the season - including a spectacular overhead kick against Wolves and a brace in Paul Groves' first game in charge against Portsmouth.

The following season, Jevons played only in three games for Town as the ITV Digital fiasco bit the club viciously. His wages were supposedly too high, as was the cost for each appearance. Many believe that had he played for Town more regularly that season, Town may have put up more of a fight against relegation. A reasonably succesful loan at Hull supposedly ended his time with the Mariners, as the striker was on the end of scathing public attacks by then chairman Peter Furneaux. However he worked hard the following season, scoring 13 goals (including four in the 6-1 thrashing of Barnsley). Michael Boulding scored a similar amount for Town in the same season, but not enough to stave off another relegation.

After three seasons of success and frustration at Blundell Park, Jevons left to Join Yeovil - cracking in 27 goals to see the Somerset side promoted. This was in a season in which no Grimsby player broke into double figures.

A case of what might have been?
