Fishy Feedback

THE Fishy receives many emails and messages and we try to publish those that are relevant or interesting. We publish here a message we received from South Africa regarding Saturday's game.

Although I am based in South Africa, I am the official Historian to Leyton Orient FC, I was on the BBC World service and Sporting Life Live commentary for the two games.

I must say on 93 minutes I was about to turn off the internet, having lost reception to the BBC World Service on the radio and after a drink of diet coke to drown my sorrows when I returned to switch off I notice everything had changed. I just could not believe my eyes, I had thought the game was over when an O's friend of mine based in Hollywood, emailed to say oh well we have the play-offs.

It must have such an emotional time at your match after the visitors had scored and then we went away and scored for a 3-2 win promotion, also sending Oxford down.

I have received emails from fans one saying, the time on the clock was 93 minutes and I witnessed men, women and children crying because it appeared their beloved O's had missed out on automatic promotion and were off for the third time in recent years to the play-offs, also one could see Oxford fans crying because their team were down to the Conference after 44-years as League members.

Then came the news on the radio that Northampton had scrambled a goal from a corner, I think there only shot on goal in the match, so the noise of the O's fans got louder and louder, then 20 seconds later Gary Alexander broke down the wing, with all the Oxford players in the Orient half, trying to get a goal, he squared the ball to Lee Steele, a former Oxford player himself, who slotted the ball past former O's goalie Billy Turley for the third and winning goal with no other Oxford player in sight. A the O's players celebrated, the Oxford players were down on their knees in tears.

It must be said that the O's had 15 shots on target and Turley had somehow saved 12 of them.

I hope your boys can pick themselves up for the play-offs and attain their rightful place in League 1.

I hope you don't mind me emailing but I felt after such a roller-coaster day I just wanted to wish you and the club all of the very best in the play-offs.

All the best
