Rodger: We Will Entertain

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 05/06/2006

NEW Grimsby boss Graham Rodger has vowed on his first day in charge to bring more entertaining football to Blundell Park. The former assistant manager, who today signed a two year contract as Grimsby boss, told Radio Humberside: "I would like to be more entertaining at home".

Despite arguably Grimsby's most successful season since the millennium, many Town fans objected to the style of play under former manager Russell Slade, who they felt favoured a too direct approach.

Rodger acknowledged that his ideas differed to that of his predecessor: "That's not criticising anybody else. We all have our own ideas of how the beautiful game should be played."

However the new Town boss, who has been at the club almost a decade, did offer a note of caution about changing too much too quickly. "You have to be careful. Remember we were only minutes away from securing promotion. You have to be able to deal with certain styles of play in this division."

Rodger went on to stress that it was at Blundell Park, where Town lost seven times this season, that he would most like to see a new style of play. "We have to be more fluent at home and that's something I'd like to think I could bring to the club".

The board are yet to appoint an assistant to Graham Rodger. The Town boss would not be drawn on his preferred No. 2, but did reveal that the person in question was currently at another club. Town stalwart John McDermott had been widely tipped to take over the job which Rodger had held until today.
