Michael Reddy

Michael Reddy was signed by Russell Slade at the start of the 2004/2005 season. The former Republic of Ireland U21-International had spent the last four years with Sunderland, making Premiership appearances for the club as well of playing for a host of other clubs on loans. He initially was partnered up front with either Andy Parkinson, Martin Gritton and Matt Harrold in his first season, and he looked lazy, arrogant and disinterested. Reddy only proved his worth on the odd occasion in his first season. For the following year, Reddy seemed to have had a rocket inserted into where the sun doesn't shine, and he quickly formed a formidable partnership with new signing Gary Jones. The Reddy/Jones partnership fired Town up the league, and goals from the pair helped The Mariners earn a play off spot. However Reddy limped off injured early on in the Play Off final, and Grimsby lost 1-0. Following Town's failure to secure promotion, he handed in a transfer request, and began to attract interest from Sheffield United, Leeds United, Bristol City and Leyton Orient. The request was denied! Town brought in Isaiah Rankin, and got excited over a mouth watering new partnership in attack, that was never to be, and Reddy struggled with injury through the entire 2006/2007 season. He was released by new manager Alan Buckley eventually in the summer of 2007, and briefly joined Yeovil Town on trial, before retiring due to the extent of his injuries.
