Think you're being a bit harsh on the commentator. He hasn't got Buckley or a summariser by his side to break up the sound of his voice. Sometimes talking relentlessly is actually quite difficult, especially if you've got people in the studio speaking in your ear all the time.

I imagine he's just a footy fan and not paid more than expenses to do it.

People are being overly critical, is indeed very difficult to talk non-stop, much like podcasting it is a very hard task. This is why they usually have colour commentator to help the running commentary.
