For fans who thought that there was a shortage of other managers for Town. It remains to be seen if this is a good appointment for York and they can stay in the FL this season.

Jackie McNamara appointed today, aged 42.  The ex-Celtic and Scottish international was manager of Partick Thistle and Dundee United.  He became Thistle manager in 2011, and the club were second in the Scottish Championship when he moved to Dundee Utd in January 2013. Thistle went on to win the title.

In McNamara's first full season, Dundee United finished fourth in the Scottish Premiership and reached the Scottish Cup Final. The following year they finished fifth and reached the Scottish League Cup Final.  Dundee United started this season badly and he was sacked in Sep.

Had a Mike Newell style % at Dundee United. Unlikely to be an issue at York!

Because it's Scotland and outside of Rangers and Hibs, we are surely able to compete with the other clubs budgets in their championship?

McNamara? Wasn't he the leader of the band?

When I was early twenties I spent time wiring Burger Kings into Granada service stations and a job in Musselburgh should've taken about three weeks , my first time in Scotland and took two months mainly down to drinking in Jackie Mcnamaras dads pub ! (Jackie I think was playing for Dunfermline at the time) . His dad used to run Scotland away trips I think ,top days

Wonder if he'll attempt to sign Townsend? (Guess based on the Dundee Utd link but they clearly need about 11 new players)

Although I think he'd need to drug the lad to make him sign for them!

I think there is a better chance of Town being in the league next season than York.

So Connor will wait until the end of the season before making any final decision on his career ,

Hopefully it will be with us.

I struggle to see why Connor would want to leave Town to join York. He's known and liked here, he knows he'll start and he's in a promotion race. Why would you swap that for uncertainty and a relegation battle? Really don't see 'league football' as being much of a pull.

On paper the McNamara appointment seems good, bit like Nigel Worthington did, surely there has to be some issues at board level

The York paper was very scathing of York's capitulation last night.  They gave up the fight at 2-0.    They conceded 6 goals in 35 mins. The manager played inexperienced players in defensive positions and it failed miserably.

The local paper is usually supportive of the team.  They gave all outfield players a "3" or "4" last night.  Far more 3s than 4s. They are in serious trouble of the drop. Michael Coulson has been their best player and did not play last night.

(No way, btw that Townsend would ever think to go to York).

Lets not kid ourselves though Celtic and Rangers are "Massive Clubs" the standard in the Scottish Prem is at it's best Championship level and most of the clubs in that league would be league 1 standard in England I reckon.
