.......if anyone has seen what has been done at Cheapside yet, anyone took any photo's?  It's been a few weeks since they started the work there, I'm just interested in what improvements have been made.  #UTM #1878

Went past today, new signage, buildings looking spruced up and there's green stuff between the car park and far buildings. I think it's called grass.

Any news on the dartboard?

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Sorry, couldn't see in the skip.

Allegedly there were signed smiling photo's of JF & IH covered in excrement that had been remove earlier, but as I didn't witness it I'm not sure.

Everything looked just the same, building-wise. It just looked like they were spruced up, a new lick of paint, etc. In fact, it looked like a training ground for a professional football club.

The weights room is being turned into a classroom with computer stations and a screen at one end to do proper analysis and game prep. Lots of other sprucing up going on in the other buildings too, as well as two brand new buildings being added.

I was given the opportunity to do a good chunk of the work, but alas, I couldn't get it done in the timeframe with the other commitments I have, so had to pass on it. It had to be ready for the players coming back to start training and I couldn't fit it in with the other jobs I had ongoing, one of which is the fan zone.

Gutted! Would loved to have been a part of the work at the training ground.

Enjoyed working on the fan zone and other bits around the ground though.

The Docks Beers lads started work on the bar and food area yesterday.

Loads of other work going on around the ground, but I'll not say any more and let the club show off the new stuff as it's completed. Suspect there will be a series of videos to come in the next few weeks.

Ah, we were always told Hurst was “good with computers”

Always thought it’d be interesting to actually see what the set ups like over there. Even more so now we’ve had some improvements.

Apologies if I have brought this up before but;
I assume we don't own Cheapside?
If not who does?
Is it the Council?
Are we leasing long term or short term from whoever?
Are there any restrictive covenants?
Does anyone on here know?
I ask because Jason & Co have stated that they are not looking at any facilities out of town.

The subject was discussed some weeks/months ago. As I recall it was suggested the land is leased, term unknown, from an unknown person/company. I do know years ago it was the home of Grimsby Hockey Club so whether it is them or not I don't know.

One of the themes of the old posts was that we could move to a new training ground that we could own and develop,

Hope this helps.

When Alex May was sniffing around the promise he was going to deliver was moving us to a new £1million training complex wasn't it?

Without getting into the realities of the delivery of that or indeed too much on that whole sorry saga.  But I'd have thought that would have been in order to use the land at Cheapside for other purposes, i.e housing.  If Town/Fenty/whatever abomination of ownership we would have fallen under didn't own the land....it never did and still doesn't add up for me.

I think the only land we own is Blundell Park. Cheapside is leased isn't it?

The fact the land is leased doesn’t stop land being built on. Obviously there’s potential complications.

No idea who actually owns the land there, but I would guess at Strawson, he owns the golf club and most of the farmland out that way I think...

I shall probably get a load of red x's on the subject of Cheapside ownership as it looks like fizzling out -again.
One more try:-
It is feasible that an ex director, or whoever, purchased the land some time ago & we  have/are paying them rent still?
It may well be the thinking by those who know that it it has f.a. to do with a bog standard supporter like myself - so be it - but I thought & am encouraged by the new openness within the club.
I do accept that here may well be valid reasons for non disclosure.
Any joy with your enquiry Jockstrap?

I believe the premises at Cheapside is called Tamburello. This was bought by the current owner in 1993 who doesn't go by a name I recognise as being a former director.

There was a charge put on the land in 2019 by the owners spouse who lives in Essex.

You can buy this information on Land Registry...
