Town Plans Under Scrutiny

News From 1st July 2000

New ground On Monday a scrutiny commission will question North East Lincolnshire's director of planning Keith Archer on why he decided to recommend changing the draft local plan to allow the new stadium to go ahead in principle.

The purpose of the scrutiny commission is to examine the key issues to amend the draft local plan outside of the full council debate, which is now on July 13th, and ensure that all the councilors fully understand and are familiar with the issues. Some of those opposing the scheme will also be presenting their cases to the commission.

Mr Archer recommended in May that the council's local plan be modified to state that, in principle, the new football stadium fits in with the council's plans for land use in the area. The specific details of the Great Coates site will be looked at a week later when the Planning Committee meet.

Six councilors have so far had to pull out of the full debate on 13th July due to having an "interest", deemed to be being a regular supporter of the Mariners.

Fans who are in favour of the new stadium can write to the address below before the 10th July to express their support for the scheme.
