Hux: We'll Survive

News From 14th July 2000

New ground

Town vice-chairman Brian Huxford vowed to fight on in the struggle to find a new home for the Mariners after the disastrous decision by NE Lincs council last night. Time is not on his side however, as the club have already wasted £160K on the Great Coates development, and the club are continuing to lose money every week. The club are expected to appeal against the decision.

A multi-national company had been ready to offer Town seven-figure backing and give their name to the new stadium. The offer will now probably be withdrawn. Even if another site is found, who could trust our elected "representatives" on the council again, and would companies to be prepared to put up big sums of money with such spineless leadership from the Town Hall?

Why the councilors voted against the plan I do not know, but why don't you ask them? I can reveal that the 20 people who voted against the scheme, and who will have blood on their hands if the club go bust are:

Conservative

Cracknell, M
Dickerson, M
Mills, P
O'Mahony, M
Parkinson, B
Riggall, O
Rudkin, S
Vickers, M

Labour

Hyldon-King, J D
Labourne, S
Lincoln, N
Norton, S J
Ramsden, P J
Townsend, K W

Liberal Democrats

De Freitas, A
Dyer, C
Haig, B M
Tattersdale, J
Thompson, M

In dependants

Solomon, M

If you want to ask them why their details and the wards they represent can all be found in the area of the NE Lincs web site known ironically as "democracy"
