Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

The Buzz from BP

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 05/09/2000

With Lennie Lawrence looking for a premiership player and Peter Handyside coming back into the team, things are buzzing at Blundell Park. There was good news in that more players will be coming in on trial.

Lennie stated that the trial for the Kiwi goalkeeper Jason Batty, who will be playing for the reserves at Wigan on Wednesday, is the beginning of a programme of trialists coming in. He also suggested that the game at Carlisle would see Livingstone playing up front. This will add strength to the front line, as Livvo is not easily pushed around in the box. Worrying though is Lennie's suggestion that if Livvo does well we might not need a striker on loan but maybe a left sided centre back. All the signs have shown that we are weak up front in the scoring stakes so we need something new to happen there. If Handyside does not break down, his return will be a major boost for Town. It is good to see his name on the team sheet again. Wayne Burnett is now at Lileshall for the final review of his injuries. The results of that review will determine if he is to be offered a further contract with the Mariners. On a monthly contract at the moment, and wishing to stay at Grimsby, he must be a very worried young man at this time, as his future in football will be decided sometime next week. It would be a great pity if we were to lose Burnett. He is a very talented player and committed to the Mariners. He is a fans favourite and his winning goal at Wembley is probably the greatest moment in Town's history.
