Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Gillingham Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 08/09/2000

Lennie Lawrence has failed to sign a new striker on loan for tomorrow's game against Gillingham, so it's a case of making the best of the players available to him for the new Town boss. Although he has a few options to change the system it is expected Lennie will stick with three at the back.

Kevin Donovan and Tony Gallimore miss out again through injury, although the good news is that Danny Butterfield has rejoined the squad. Peter Handyside continues his comeback and is again named in the squad after his mid-week start at Carlisle, but it is thought unlikely he will start.

Town boss Lennie Lawrence has a fundamental decision to make in whether to continue to play a three man central defence, or revert to the 4-4-2 system that the Mariners invariably played under former boss Alan Buckley, and which the players are more accustomed to. With more or less the same players available to him than in the other games so far under Lawrence, the chances are that Lennie will opt to continue to play with a 3-5-2 formation.

Former Town player Nicky Southall features in the Gillingham squad. The Gills normally play a 4-4-2 system with King and Asaba as twin strikers.

Expected Town line-up: Coyne, McDermott, Raven, Groves, Livingstone, D Smith, Pouton, Coldicott, Jeffrey, Black, Allen
Subs: Croudson, Butterfield, Handyside, Bloomer, Clare

Expected Gills line-up: Bartram, Edge, Butters, Hope, Patterson, Gooden, Hessenthaler, Southall, Lewis, King, Asaba
Subs: Mitten, Bryant,Browning,Rowe, McGlinchy
