Who will win League 2?

Lawrence to Sign New Contracts

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 28/05/2001

Danny Butterfield who was reported to be the subject of other offers has now agreed to sign an extension to his contract. With other clubs including Derby County and Notts Forest showing an interest in the young player the Mariners are pleased he has decided to extend his stay.

As announced a few days ago, Stuart Campbell will also sign for Grimsby on a straight transfer from Leicester City. Lennie Lawrence said today that he has accepted the departure of Kevin Donovan as a foregone conclusion and has earmarked Campbell as his replacement moving him over to the right.

"He's a good pro and I've played him out on the left which isn't his best position and he's done a great job." Said Lawrence in the Grimsby Telegraph today. "We've done a three-year deal because we're investing money and we can't afford to have him walking away in two years time."

"Next season I want 40 games out of him with the same level of performance he gave us this year and between five and 10 goals on top of that."

Both players are expected to sign their new contracts tomorrow.

It is also reported that Coldicott and Burnett are in talks with the club and a decision is expected from them very soon.
