St Blundell Parish Newsletter: Church News

By: Mr P Furneaux
Date: 28/07/2001

Hello all! And greetings from St Blundell Parish Church! What a wonderful summer we've been having so far. In fact the weather has been so good that myself and Mr Ramsden went for a dip in the sea last week! Marvellous!

This fine weather has been made even brighter by the news that more tickets for Mrs Ramsden's knitting lessons have been sold than last year. This of course means extra sheckles for us on the Parish board to look after (and do nothing with) and of course extra funds for Mr Lawrence and the upkeep of the Village Hall.

On another good note I am delighted to announce that the plans for the New Church, to be built on Mr Coates field is still in operation despite bleatings of discontent from his sheep. However, the whole 12 seats in our current church may only be increased to 15 seats in the new church, instead of the 25 proposed in 1997. Obviously, this is disappointing but we must be realistic! This is only St Blundell Church and we must not stretch ourselves too far or spend too much money! Anyway, we hope that the New Church will be built in time for Christmas 2003, but that is being very optimistic!

Recently there have been a few grumbles lingering through the village about the enthusiasm and commitment of the Parish Council Board. This was challenged by Mr B Huxford of Imperial Farm who said that he could do a better job than us! Would you believe it? The cheek of it! This was obviously dismissed without question! As I have explained, the council are coping just fine without Mr Huxford's presence (although Mr Ian Fleming did inform me that Mrs Huxford's date slices are much better than Mrs Graves'!). Anyway, I now seal the matter closed and we look forward to the future, which leads me to my next announcement'

Since the departures of Mr Everitt and Mr Huxford, there have been gaps to fill on the Parish council, particularly with the accounts and minutes which were always conducted so competently by Mr Everitt. So, we are delighted to take on board Mr John Fenty, who has recently moved into Barlings Cottage. Mr Fenty of course, was on the council just a few years ago, but had to leave his position because his budgie called 'Muffin' got tonsillitis! But now Muffin has snuffed it, Mr Fenty has decided to join us! We hope that he will enjoy his time with us, but we do politely remind him that the accounts for the last 3 and a half years still need doing!

So, until next time, when the harvest season will be in full swing, goodbye and God bless!

Yours In Christ,

Peter
