Lincoln Team News: Simon Ford to Make Debut

By: Richard Lord
Date: 21/08/2001

THERE IS an air of anonymity surrounding Grimsby manager Lennie Lawrence's choice of starting eleven ahead of tonight's cup clash with Lincoln City.

The Town boss has been burdened in his preference to field his strongest side due to injuries and has previously indicated he might be forced to give youth a try.

Alan Pouton and Tony Gallimore were forced to play at West Brom at the weekend despite not being 100% match fit, and Newcastle have refused to let the Mariners field on-loan defender David Beharall for tonight's local derby.

This leaves the already dwindling Grimsby squad looking increasingly bare and the manager may be required to turn his attention to some of the more youthful members of his squad. Dutchman Robbie Busscher made an appearance at the Hawthorns, albeit for less than a minute, and central defender Simon Ford was given a place on the bench. These two youngsters, who both had good games in the reserve match against Stoke last week, look the likeliest to figure at some stage tonight.

Lawrence has already stated that he would like to field his strongest side and treat the game as a league match. However, this may have to include some unproven players as the depth of the Mariners squad is tested to the limit.

Likely starting eleven: Coyne, McDermott, Gallimore, Groves, Ford, Campbell, Butterfield, Willems, Busscher, Jevons, Rowan
