IT PAINS ME to say it, but barring intervention from the man upstairs, Grimsby's spell in Division One will be ended this season. The reasons are many. The ruthless sacking of Lennie Lawrence, the appointment of Paul Groves…

But the most worrying thing this season has been the apparent lack of effort shown by the majority of the first-team squad. This is shown by our precarious position in the table.

If the dreaded drop is to be avoided, then I would like to see one or two old faces return, such as John Oster. I'm concerned for the club's long-term financial future. Relegation would cripple the club's already precarious financial state.

On the pitch, if we were to go down, the departures of Danny Coyne and Phil Jevons would happen quicker than Derby conceding a goal. Without our most experienced players, we cannot avoid this fate. Looks like it's a day out in Blackpool next year.
