Is football a business or a sport?

Livvo Wants To Play!

AFTER featuring in the Reserves for 60 minutes on Wednesday night, Steve Livingstone is desperate to play his way back into the first team before the end of the season. The 33-year old went under the knife early in the year to cure a circulatory problem in his calves.

Speaking to the Grimsby Telegraph the striker revealed: "I'd love to get back into the squad and get on the bench, even if it was just for 20 or 30 minutes. It was great to be back playing again and I really enjoyed it. It felt like I'd never been away once the whistle went.

"I've never thought of writing the season off and concentrating on next season, I just want to get fit and get back. I'll try and get 90 minutes in the ressies next week and then see where I am for the Burnley and Millwall games."

But with the acquisition of Willie Falconer, Paul Robinson and Robert Taylor - along with Boulding, Jevons, Allen and Rowan - Livvo realistically assumes he won't be needed or risked in the last three games of the season.

He continued: "There's Mick Boulding and Brad (Allen) who are playing at the minute, then there's Jevvo and Jonny Rowan as well as the lads that have come in. It's going to be hard for me to get back in because Willie is a big lad, and it will depend if Robert Taylor is ahead of me in the fitness stakes.

"I wouldn't have thought they will want to use me, but I'm desperate to play. I'll have a chat with the manager and, if they don't want me for the last couple of games, I'll ease off and get myself right for July.

"If I'm not going to play there's no point in pushing myself and risking anything. I don't want to be peaking in the summer, that would be pointless." And the 6 foot 2 inch striker believes the Mariners' hard work will help them ease to safety.

He added: "They've got the ability to do it and they're playing well at the minute. If we can go to Norwich and get a point and then beat Burnley we can be safe. We need four points and there's no reason the lads can't get them. The confidence is high after the good run and I don't think they'll throw it away after the hard work of the past two months."
