The Retained List Debate

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 20/04/2002

FRED and Bert spent their Saturday afternoon wondering who Paul Groves should keep at Blundell Park, and who should be shown the door!

Home > Fred and Bert > The Retained List Debate

FRED:
Well Bert, one more game and it’s over.

BERT:
Yes and I will be glad to see the end of it.

FRED:
What no football until August?

BERT:
This time round I welcome it. My nerves are shattered.

FRED:
Yes, but that young Groves fella saved the day, or should I say the club!

BERT:
Aye. The lads done well but we’ve been been lucky too.

FRED:
Lucky?

BERT:
Lucky he got the job. If the club had the money they might have got someone else.

FRED:
Like who?

Fred and Bert

BERT:
Well that Lennie Lawrence bloke is doing well at Cardiff. We might have got him.

FRED:
We had him Bert. We sacked him. That is why we got Groves.

BERT:
See. I told you we were lucky!

FRED:
Well I can’t wait for next season. We are really going places.

BERT:
Where?

FRED:
Well not to Wycombe thanks to Groves.

BERT:
So where will we finish next season?

FRED:
Higher than this, as long as we get some good players.

BERT:
What with? We can’t afford them.

FRED:
We can afford some if we release a few who are not wanted

BERT:
Like who? Who are they going to let go?

FRED:
Good question Bert! Let’s find out!

Now for the vote...
