Mansaram Handed Two Year Deal

By: Tony Hamilton
Date: 07/09/2002

TODAY Grimsby Town announced that young centre forward Darren Mansaram has been offered a two year contract. Paul Groves told Mariners Net: "he's been close to being in the first team squad last season, and had been included in the final sixteen this season".

The 18-year-old has over the last season put in consistent performances and been a regular goal scorer for the reserves and is, in Paul Groves' words, "getting fitter and stronger all the time".

The Mariners have handed the contract to the Doncaster-born striker yesterday, and expect him to mull over it at the weekend and are hoping he'll put pen to paper on Monday morning. Should he do so, the six footer will be included in the sixteen to meet Chesterfield in the Worthington Cup on Tuesday night at Blundell Park.

Earlier this week Grimsby offloaded former Everton forward Phil Jevons to Hull City on a season-long loan, and with Steve Livingstone out of action for some time, and Paul Robinson due to return to Wimbledon shortly, Groves is currently short of numbers in the striking department.
